Where's God In All of This?

Looking for ways to connect with the divine when TV just doesn't cut it anymore

#0180sva – Dr. Melissa Scott

For years,  Dr. Gene Scott was on television  and it made him a household-name and millions of dollars. He flaunted “traditional” Christian values. You might remember him with the cigar always in his mouth and talking about his alcohol consumption, sex life, etc.  Before he died, he married Melissa Pauline Peroff, now known as, Dr. Melissa Scott. She married Dr. Gene Scott, who was 70 and she was 32 years of age at the time.  Upon his death, Melissa Scott inherited Dr. Scott’s Los Angeles Church and vast empire.

Millions watch her on late-night television and are very impressed with her knowledge and biblical teaching. Many find her attractive and smart.  However, we need to take a look at her background, her teaching and her current fund-raising techniques. Please, don’t believe everything you see or hear. It may not be what it seems to be.

Melissa performed as Barbie Bridges in adult photos and videos. Melissa became connected with Dr. Gene Scott in 1995 during his “pony girl” phase. He paid models (adult film stars) to attend his church and sit in the front row. Dr. Scott required the rest of the audience to stand and give the ladies an ovation when they entered.

In 1996, Melissa divorced Paul Pastore and Gene Scott divorced his second wife. Some doubt the credibility of Dr. Scott’s claims that Melissa speaks 15 languages and has an IQ of 186. Dr. Scott died of terminal prostate cancer in 2005.

Controversy surrounds Pastor Melissa Scott as she harasses and constantly badgers volunteers for free service, demands money  and insists that those who have stayed in her church double and triple their monetary giving to help her make ends meet. This is amid court documents and reports that she has been liquidating cars, horses, and real estate that Gene Scott acquired through church donations, to buy herself a downtown Los Angeles, California luxurious condominium and further her own celebrity.

Recently, Pastor Melissa Scott raised eyebrows within her church when she announced a plan to teach the “prosperity gospel”. It’s prosperity for her.  Another “Prosperity and Positive Confession” teacher hits the air-waves now.

In 2007, Paul Crouch Jr. met Melissa Scott and divorced his wife, Tammy, that same year. Dr. Melissa Scott and Paul Crouch Jr. (Trinity Broadcasting Network) were reported to be having an affair which broke up Crouch’s marriage.  It is not known at this time if that affair continues or not?

Dr. Melissa Scott has repeatedly stated on her television program and in her sermons that she will “never marry again” due to the fact that she is “married to the church and is fully dedicated to it.”

Dr. Gene Scott flaunted and maligned the church (Body of Christ) during his ministry and now in his death–he is getting the last laugh–he put an “adult film star” in the pulpit and made sure she inherited his vast fortune.

Oh, by the way, Dr. Scott has been successful in having all negative videos of her and her ministry removed from YouTube.

I read your article on Melissa Scott, and would like to ask you this question: are you praying for her as much as you are criticising her?

Thanks so much for bringing up the topic that you have done regarding the article on Dr. Melissa Scott. Please know that I pray for her and others in the Body of Christ who are false teachers and leading others away from God for personal gain on a regular basis.

If you have read our blog for any length of time, you will notice that I have frequently written articles on famous movie stars and especially televangelists.

Why? The main reason I write on these topics is because there are literally millions of Christians who are totally unaware of their lifestyles and hypocrisy. If well-meaning, sincere Christians would stop supporting these people then they would go out of business and go off the air. They are fleecing the flock of God and will stand accountable before God for their deeds.

Another reason I write on these topics is because I feel it is my mandate from Christ. In fact, it is every Christians’ mandate to speak the Truth and proclaim God’s Word to all. You can be wrong about a lot of things in this life and its okay. But to be wrong about eternity is another serious issue. And to follow any of these false teachers will only lead you to destruction. Out of love for you—I write these blogs.

I don’t have any personal hatred or animosity toward these individuals. But I am thoroughly disgusted and feel compelled to proclaim the Truth of the Gospel to anyone who will listen. We are called to expose “deeds of darkness.” That means exposing them and their lifestyles, false doctrines and practices which are diametrically opposed to the Bible.

Look at their Lifestyles True followers of Jesus Christ cannot live in habitual sin. “Habitual” means continually practicing sin in your life. When you look at the private lives of these famous televangelists you see a habitual lifestyle that is one marked by sin. There is no repentance or conscience regarding their actions either. (Please read Joyce Meyer’s comment on my previous blog #0175 Joyce Meyer’s Money and Lifestyle.)

I am not making a judgment on them at all. However, I will give you some scriptures that are very plain from the Bible. Then you decide.

1 John 3:6-7 “No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous.” (ESV)

Matthew 7:15-20 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits….Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.”

Romans 6 tells us that if we continue to live in sin that grace may abound….”God forbid.”

We who claim to be Christians must live a life of purity before God and mankind. Yes, we all still sin but the difference is that we “abhor” our sin and do not want to “continue” in it. We cry out to God for forgiveness and the “power to overcome it in our lives”. The individuals I am talking about are not unhappy or miserable nor do they feel guilty about their lifestyles. They are happily continuing in it.

God’s Word gives us strong warnings! Lets heed it and obey it and exalt Christ in our lives.

I John 1: 15 “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and the pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” (ESV)

I Corinthians 5:11 “But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner–not even to eat with such a person.” (NKJV)

And of course, Matthew 18 gives more stong warnings to us also.

Thank you for commenting and expressing your opinion. It is greatly appreciate. We accept comments from those that disagree, as well as, agree with our position.

its easy to JUDGE and condemn someone based on their past.
    but WHY?
what is the point…. other than you come across as having a grudge against ministers.
with no one here to defend (not that they need to) their lives , past sins or current actions, this is nothing more than one sided , gossip.
and the “gossip shares the same fate as the Adulterer, the Murderer and the Thief”
    think about that….
Are YOU Christian? ie, living in Christ?
what did Jesus say about and TO the woman brought before him , supposedly caught in the “very act of Adultery”? to the crowd judging her, he said….. ” let ye among you without sin, cast the first stone” and to the woman he said….”GO AND SIN NO MORE”
Jesus turns lives around….. according to HIS will…. not the will of man…
    Romans 8:28
Its all about HIM…..not you , not ME, and not Melissa Scott..
if God uses her or her past to reach one lost soul for HIMSELF…… then she has done her job…
and reguardless to what you say about her….. God himself will say….”WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT!!”
    God bless you

This blog isn’t about juding. Its about telling the truth and making unsuspecting people (who donate time and money) to a person that may or may not? be using there funds for God’s glory and promoting the Gospel. Please take a look at the lifestyle of Melissa Scott. Does that speak of the type of lifestyle that a servant of God would have? No, Jesus wasn’t rich and neither should televangelists get rich. Please read some of our other blogs about popular televangelists. You will see a definate pattern. The Scriptures tell us to “judge them by their fruits.” What kind of fruits do multimillion dollar homes, cars and jet planes reveal? You be the Judge.
When the Scripture talks about “judging” it commands the spiritual to judge in 1Corinthians. Also Jesus called the pharisees “snakes in the grass.” Well to make this reply short, I would hope that you read your Bible carefully. In the last days there will be a multitude of false teachers who are fleecing the flock for financial gain and bringing them to destruction through false doctrine.
Ricky, please read my reply to Lynn regarding this blog. it is lengthy but comes to the scriptural points very clearly.

I want to thank you for taking the time to comment.
      Take Care and God Bless,

Thank you Sandy for writing about Melissa Scott and also for responding to people like RickyRay who think Melissa Scott’s past is unimportant. Melissa Scott never made any attempt to atone for her porn past and instead chose to deny it for years. She certainly had me fooled completely.

Thanks for commenting on the Melissa Scott issue. Yes, she had me fooled for awhile also.
      Take Care,
