#0466sva – NASA Discovers New Life Form

While NASA is known for its space observations, the agency’s latest discovery was found on Earth. The organization announced on Thursday that it had discovered an arsenic-based organism.

Known as GFAJ-1, the strain of bacteria is unlike any other life form on Earth in that it substitutes arsenic at the DNA level for phosphorus. Scientists discovered the organism in Mono Lake – a body of water known for its unusually high salt concentrations.

“We’ve discovered an organism that can substitute one element for another,” Felisa Wolfe-Simon, a NASA astrobiology research fellow at the U.S. Geological Survey, told CNET. “We’ve cracked open the door to what’s possible for life elsewhere in the universe.

NASA scientists have long theorized that arsenic-based life forms could exist, both on Earth and elsewhere in the universe. The discovery of the new organism brings back the often-asked question of whether or not there could be other intelligent life out there, in the Sun’s solar system or beyond. Many scientists believe there could be other organisms on Saturn’s moon, Titan.

Administrator’s note:  From a Christian Worldview what do you think about this discovery?  Does this mean that man could live elsewhere in the universe?  Do you think there is intelligent life on other planets or solar systems? Have you ever considered these questions?  Was it a good thing or not that scientists cracked open this door?

Please leave a comment. We would love to hear from you on this one.

The scientists can open any door they want too. The truth will always stand, and wherever mankind finds himself existing the truth is that Jesus Christ died to save the souls of every man and woman in existence. I doesn’t matter where this existence is or what it looks like. We make the mistake that we’ve got God figured out, but He can expose any unknown truth, to us and if we’re not trusting in His sovereignty as the almighty God, we can be knocked for a spiritual loop. This discovery is a long, long way from proving anything other than what it has. To ask such questions about life on other planets is alright, but to get so caught up in conjecturing “what if there is?” is to be distracted from our purpose for being here as born again people of Christ. That is to reach the lost with His message of salvation.

    Thanks Sandy. I appreciate it.
I would think others might express their views on such a controversial subject.
